The current debate over the legacy of the late former Premier and national hero Sir George Walter, sparked by an attack on Sir George by the Prime Minister Gaston Browne, has exposed the challenge of agreeing on the legacies of national icons amidst pervasive political tribalism and the dominance of rhetoric. In this episode, we ask: What must be done to overcome these often politically charged disputes over legacies in the public psyche?

This programme first aired on NewsCo Observer Radio 91.1 FM on January 16th, 2022. The host is Kieron Murdoch. The guests are:

  1. Dorbrene O’Marde, a director and producer of theatre and music. He is a playwright, a columnist; and a calypso writer, judge and analyst. Among his principal interests are Caribbean History, and Black political thought. He is a Pan-Africanist and is currently the chairman of Antigua and Barbuda's Reparations Support Commission.
  2. Dr. James Knight, former Editor of the Outlet Newspaper, along with the late Leonard Tim Hector. The paper functioned as a weekly organ of the Antigua Caribbean Liberation Movement (ACLM). For the ACLM the newspaper played a very important role and in its heyday, Outlet claimed a circulation of around 5,000 copies.
