Jan Bartlett talks to Journalist Adrain Weller on BDS (Boycott Divest and Sanctions) backlash in the US. The movement refers to a global campaign promoting various forms of boycott against the State of Israel due to its discriminatory policies against Palestinians. BDS posits that Israel is an apartheid state and calls for an end to the occupation of Arab lands and for Israel to follow international laws.Jan and Peter analyze the pre-election period and the election results. The international coalition of Human rights in the Philippines have stated the election was not up to international standards. A former dictator's son Marcos Jr, has now been elected as the 17th president of the Philippines. Journalists state the election was manipulated and information has been censored, not allowing journalists to report on the election properly. Human right activists fear what will come from the new president and predict the abuse of power. People that have spoken against the party and government previously/during the election have been named "Red tagging" deeming them communist and terrorist.Jan is joined by Fred Fuentes to discuss the recent Colombian election. The recent election has been a historic movement in Colombia, as a left winged president has been elected. They discuss the positive impact Gustovo Petro may have on the country, but remind us of the long journey ahead of Colombia, through this transition period. Interest in how the new President will negotiate for peace within the country. Supporters of Petro continue to celebrate the victory and hope for change.
