The Dr. Samuel D. Harris National Museum of Dentistry received congressional designation as the nation's official dental museum via a joint resolution introduced by the late United States Senator Paul S. Sarbanes and the late United States Representative Elijah E. Cummings. President George W. Bush signed the resolution into law on Nov. 12, 2003,
