Dementia goes beyond forgetfulness. It is the gradual loss of mental acuity and it has different levels that can go from mild cognitive impairment to full-blown Alzheimer's disease. It is imperative that we stay observant in order to detect signs of dementia as early as possible in family and friends and even in ourselves. It is also important that we develop and put in writing a plan for end-of-life care if we contract this or other chronic diseases.
