Today, natural gas meets 38 per cent of Canada’s energy needs and remains the country’s most affordable and dependable energy resource.

When natural gas and carbon taxes go up, the Canadian Gas Association and its member utilities, who pass consumers the final bill for their gas use, are the first to hear about it and to work with consumers to educate and mitigate bill increases for their 7.5 million customers in Canada.

Part of that rise in prices is due to rise in demand post COVID. But there’s also more economic activity around the world and conflict in Ukraine.

And another big part of the rise in your gas bill is due to rising carbon taxes.

In this episode Jas talks with the President & CEO of the CGA Tim Egan to get his thoughts on commodity prices, rising carbon taxes, and missed opportunities to provide the world with much-needed Canadian energy.

Tim Egan, Canadian Gas Association
Tim became President and CEO of the Canadian Gas Association in September 2010. He serves as Canada’s representative at the International Gas Union, sitting on the Executive Committee and as the Regional Coordinator for North America.

He’s the publisher of the Energy Regulation Quarterly and editor of the ENERGY magazine.

Tim has an undergraduate degree in history from the University of Ottawa and common and civil law degrees from McGill University.
