В молодости химик Отто Ган был призван на фронт Первой Мировой и участвовал в разработке химического оружия. В старости — открыл расщепления ядра урана и сделал возможным создание атомной бомбы. В 1945 году получил за свою работу Нобелевскую премию — через три месяца после Хиросимы. А в промежутке он строил научную карьеру на фоне революции, гиперинфляции, нацизма, эмиграции коллег и репрессий. Этот эпизод — история ученого во время войны.
