A brave mom adopts 3 kids out of foster care and goes on to start a non-profit
Manage episode 348871427 series 3181125
Amber talks about her experience as a foster parent and why she believes the key to changing our society is providing consistent relationships to our most vulnerable population; our children in foster care. With 438 thousand children in foster care nation wide organizations like Amber's Non Profit Spokane Angels looks to support foster kids and their families by providing relationships, mentorship and intentional giving. 50% of people in homelessness and 80% of those who have served prison time have been in the foster care system at some point in their lives. 50% of foster kids graduate high school and only 3% go to college. For ways to get involved in Spokane Angels you can sign up on their website to be a Dare to Dream mentor (they currently need 7 kids matched with mentors) or provide a Love Box to a family. Love Boxes range in need and can be filled on a monthly basis to provide food, gift cards, necessities to these families that are already providing foster care. Go to Spokaneangels.org to participate. If you want to start your own angels program on a national level go to nationalangels.org to check out how you can start your own non-profit chapter in your area of the country. Currently there are only 20 chapters nationally.
