In this episode of The Real Build, I wanted to cover a topic that has been on my mind lately. More contractors need to be open and honest with their clients. We are in a different world, and things are not what they used to be in construction. Now more than ever, we need to communicate and be transparent with our clients. Some topics I cover in this episode are:

Be open, honest, and transparent about what is happening

Examples

-Appliance delays

-Price Increases

-Timing

- Lack of labor - Hurricane Ian created a lack of labor because our subs lost employees

Price increases will happen; let them know before starting the build

  • Get ahead of this and set the expectation

Shop pricing and show that you are working for the client.

Show them you are trying to negotiate the best pricing for them.

Be honest about your timelines and what you can and can’t get done

  • Closing on a house example

Communicate communicate communicate

  • Open communication is key
