Everyday Trailblazers: "Creating Fellowship with Fractions of Kindness and the importance of Equitable Wages", with Community Builder: Katie Newman
Manage episode 353390265 series 3293306
29 year-old Katie Newman is the founder of "The Rose Gift House and Coffee" in Downtown Renton, Washington.
The Rose is much more than a great coffee shop, more than just a awesome local business; it's a hub that Katie created for community and a place for her to practice the values (empowering her employees and creating a space for love and connection) she preaches with her own employees. Katie's passion, creativity, and commitment to make a difference for the next generation fills me with hope and strengthens my determination in my own quest to make the world better.
Listen in to hear hear about Katie's wealth of experience; serving and empowering her communities from formative experiences in a soup kitchen and a woman's shelter to her later work in non-profit fundraising and community building in the Renton downtown core. In addition to her background in neuroscience and non-profit work, Katie has spent over a decade thinking deeply about her community's needs, as well as the necessity of equitable pay and compensation for workers.
