The day that Lauren Ruotolo made the choice to stand, was the day that would change her life forever. Lauren is an Author, Content Creator, Marketer and a DEI Advocate. Her previous accolades include senior positions at Johnson & Johnson, DanceOn, Hearst Magazines, and TV Guide. Lauren has dealt with many challenges in her life due to having a rare genetic disease called McCune Albright Syndrome. She explains that at 5 years old, she was faced with the choice of sitting or standing for the rest of her life. Lauren discusses how the promise she made to herself taught her to embrace challenges and allowed them to fuel her and her incredible life.

Lauren brings her experience and an inspirational voice to organizations globally to help them understand why they need to include the disabled community in their DEI and talent plans. After writing a first person essay that became the most read article that year, Lauren wrote a book which then taught her that “everyone’s story matters” and deserves to be told. This led her to become an inspirational speaker to help spread awareness and open up the conversation about disability. Lauren reminds us of the importance of keeping promises to yourself as well as becoming exactly who YOU want to be.

Some powerful takeaways from today’s episode:

  • Make a choice to let challenges fuel you
  • Every person’s story matters
  • Keep your promises that you make to yourself
  • Curiosity leads to education
  • Nothing in life that is worth living, is easy
