About Judy Wells

Judy Wells grew up in Toronto and graduated with a General Arts degree from the University of Toronto. At 22, she worked for a Dallas-based hair care company and became their exclusive Canadian Distributor after almost a year in the Northeastern US. As a woman in a business dominated by men, her hard work and love for sales showed her much success. She rose to become a Master Distributor responsible for acquiring 2 New York-based manufacturing companies- saving one from the verge of bankruptcy.

Although successful with her entrepreneurial career, she suffered a severe problem with alcohol that later sent her to a Treatment Centre in 1991 for alcoholism. She recovered and is now 31 years sober. However, she was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder.

In the mid-’90s, she got involved with Mount Sinai Hospital, where she donated what later became The Judy Wells Family Birthing Centre. She is now heading up a fundraising effort for Mount Sinai Hospital. They are trying to raise $3 million for the first in the world Chair in Emergency Medicine Addiction and Mental Health. This Chair will spearhead studies to identify, understand and remedy emergency care shortcomings that impact the health of people with mental illness and addiction.
