By now, you have either seen or heard about the ads during Superbowl LVII from "HE GET US".
Many praised the ads. Many others were critical of the ads. Some of the critics accused the campaign of:

  • Grooming young people into a right-wing agenda
  • Wasting millions of dollars that could be better spent to help people
  • Promoting hate
  • Promoting anti-LGBTQ+ messages
  • Promoting anti-abortion messages
  • and so much more

Even evangelical Christians accused the campaign of a 'watered-down message', portraying Jesus with a 'we are all okay' message, or even heretical.

Long before the Superbowl, we reached out to the team at He Gets Us and requested an interview. The goal was to hear directly from them and get questions answered.
Chief Solutions Officer, Brad Hill, sat down with us to explain the purpose of He Gets Us. We learned what results they hoped to see through this campaign. But they didn't jump into an idea haphazardly. They interviewed many non-Christians to find out what they think about Christians, what they think about the Christian church, and what they think about Jesus.
That information became a driving force for the agenda at He Gets Us. They began to focus on the topics of #love #hope #struggle #justice #activist #forgiveness #outrage #reaction #refugee #women #relationships #inclusive # judgment and #RealLife.
These would be the topics they would begin sharing through videos and other media. These are the most important issues that people cared about. He Gets Us wants to recognize that these are also important issues for Jesus. These are issues that Jesus also dealt with---HE GETS US!
My takeaway from the conversation of hope with Brad Hill was, this is a group of people who are passionate about sharing the Hope of Jesus Christ with everyone. They want to enable churches and individuals with resources that help all Jesus followers to be the hands and feet of Jesus to our world--at home, at work, and at play. This is a group of people who are hearing a desperate cry from our world that they need HOPE. If Jesus is who He said He is, then they want to know Him. After all, HE GETS US.
“But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect" - 1 Peter 3:15
