Dorothy Norwood is another great gospel singer and songwriter. She began touring with her family at the age of eight., and 1956, began singing with Mahalia Jackson. In the early 1960’s she was a member of the Caravans, and in 1964, she went solo recording her first album.
Lord Bring Me Down From This Mountain is a single from Dorothy’s 1976 album. There’s a lot of great songs on that album, and Lord Bring Me Down is my favorite.
Gospel music then is no ways like Gospel music today. In the beginning, it had its own style of music. Now many styles are added. In the old days, Gospel music had its own sound, and it was played differently. And now, it sounds like other Genres. Gospel rap, gospel rock, and so on. The old style hasn’t always been easy for me to sing and play like I’ve always wanted to. There’s something about it. And whenever it was played, it had to be done right. You had to sing it right. The old days were strict.
Getting back to Dorothy Norwood, she has been singing for a long time. She’s one of the best. She’s someone you can learn from.
You’re listening to a show about The Gospel Greats, and I’m your host, Gail Nobles. You can hear Dorothy Norwood’s “Lord Bring Me Down On This Mountain” on YouTube.
