In this episode, I look into 1st and 2nd Timothy as well as Ephesians, and discuss the role of women in church structure. 1st Timothy 2:12 says (NASB), "12 But I do not allow a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. 13 For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve. 14 And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a wrongdoer." This verse will anchor our discussion, the key phrase is "over a man". While women can serve in leadership, teaching, and authoritative roles in the church, they should not exercise such authority "over a man". The context of 1st Century Ephesus is very relevant to the discussion, as it was a cultural, religious, and ethnic melting pot and world trade center. If one was to give instructions to the church that would then spread out to all Christians and new converts around the world, Ephesus would be the perfect place to do so. #ProgressiveChristianity #WomenInTheChurch #WomenPastors #Deacons #ScienceFaithandReasoning #Culture #Christianity #Bible
