Mutual aid came on our radar during winter storm Uri in 2021 but we didn’t really ask many questions back then. As we’ve learned more about food insecurity and asked ourselves questions about the role of NGOs and charitable giving in maintaining current systems, we’ve bumped into questions about mutual aid again. What is it? How does it differ from charity? How do people access it? The more we learned and explored, the more we had to ask ourselves to explore our own assumptions about who’s deserving and why we even ask that question in the first place. Learn alongside us and we hope you walk away willing to do your own homework which is to think about how you approach giving and what systems you want to intentionally support (or not).
