121. Outgrowing Your Childhood Traumas
Manage episode 363761869 series 3379923
So much of your experience as a child influences you as an adult. Having grown up in a typical Asian immigrant family, we felt like we never received the love that we wanted. But how should we carry that experience forward in an evolved way?
In this episode, we dive into how we can unlearn childhood trauma. Childhood trauma can express itself in adult behaviors that you don't quite understand. It can cause you to experience sudden anxiety, anger, or other unexpected emotions as a reaction to certain triggers. While these emotions are mechanisms to protect ourselves, we recognize that they can also stand in the way of happiness.
Looking into the future, we want to own and grow beyond our childhood trauma. We want to free our children and future relationships of having to deal with the same issues that we did, and even turn our learnings towards improving our current relationships with our parents now that we are adults ourselves.
