Patrick: Welcome back to another episode of The American Wealth Project. My name is
Patrick McAndrew, and I'm excited to be here and bring you today's guest. One
of the main reasons why we developed this resource is we wanted to bring people
who are accessible, phenomenal, and local that have been proven to provide
results, whether it's in advice, a service, or in this case, exceptional
coaching. This is next level coaching that we're going to be talking about
today. I'm primarily speaking to those of us who are building a business or who
are self-employed in some way or are high achievers in their industry. Today's
episode is for you. I'm sure you set goals just like I did in your business or
in your practice or whatever field that you're a high performer in. Where are
we at? That's the question, right? Where are you at mid-year? Are you closer to
your goal? Are you on track? Are you behind? And what actions do you need to
take? That's the conversation today. Allison is a phenomenal coach. She's all
about breaking through to the other side. Getting through whatever's in your
way to create the results that you say you want. So be careful what you tell
her that you want because she's going to hold you to it. That's been my
experience. That's why I've been so excited to have this podcast, I've seen how
incredibly effective she is in working with people. I've had the opportunity to
get coaching from her and let me tell you, it's been amazing. Excited to bring
you to her today. We're going to get a little bit into her background and just
know that she is going to offer something at the end of this that I couldn't
believe. I'll share that with you at the end of the show and so please stick
around for that and be ready to take some notes and take action. It's mid-year.
Let's get the results we said we wanted. All right, let's get to it. Allison ALMIGHTY
Bechtel Clark.
Thank you so much for making time for us today. I appreciate
you coming on. I know you got a lot going on in your world, so thank you for
making time.
Allison: My pleasure. I'm happy to be here Patrick.
Patrick: It's been a while since I've caught up with you. I was so excited to bring you on and offer you as a resource to those I work with. I've experienced
you and seen how successful you are in working with folks and excited to catch
up with you and get clear on what it is you're doing these days and how you are
continuing to coach and support people. So excited to get into that. Can you
give us a bit more about your background, just kind of briefly how you got to where
you're at and doing what you're doing now.
Allision: Yeah, sure. So originally my background really
is in real estate. I grew up in real estate. My mom was very successful real
estate agent, real estate broker, and I originally wanted to be a doctor. But I
realized after let's see, it was right after college, I actually started working
at my mom's real estate company. And I realized the reason why I thought I wanted
to be a doctor was because I watched my mom work her tail off all the time. 24/7,
always working. There was always something going on, and I realized, I didn't
want to have that life. And I realized that if I became a doctor, I would be
doing the same exact thing. But I'd be on someone else's watch instead of
running a business. So not too long after that, I took over one of the offices,
and within the first 90 days, I recruited 100 real estate agents to join our
office. And we were the number one most profitable int he whole country that
year, which was super exciting.
Patrick: Within 90 days?
Allison: Yes. It was crazy. It was crazy. I'd have seven or eight
appointments a day, but it was, like, crazy fun, right? And then from there, I
took on two more offices and I had about 400 real estate agents working for me .And
what I found during that time was that I never really had the passion for just
selling a house. My true passion was sitting across from a real estate agent
who was trying to build a business, a brand new business for them, like, how do
I do this? And to figure out how to put all the pieces of the puzzle together
to make them super successful, that was really what just drove me all the time.
And so all those people I brought in, it was my mission of how can I get them
up to speed as quickly as possible so they can see success? And that's when I
knew that I was a success from the coaching that I was delivering.
Patrick: Got it. I suppose you had to do a ton of that building that business out, right?
Allison: Yeah, absolutely. And it's so much fun to watch the light bulb go off for someone
and then to come back in and go, oh, my gosh, I just got my first sale. And now
they get to talk about the car they're going to buy, the dance program they're
going to put their daughter in they couldn't afford before, like that type of
stuff. It really moves me.
Patrick: Yeah, that's awesome. That's fantastic. I can totally feel that. So tell me more about where you're at now. This is how you got into coaching and getting people to move forward. What's that look like now?
Allison: Over the last 20 years, I've developed a lot of systems from all that coaching
one on one with people into an actual program so they can, especially for
entrepreneurs, it's so hard, you go, okay, I'm ready to do my own business, but
now where do I start? And I find that there's really one major issue every entrepreneur
has, and then it trickles down into four. So the one big issue I see is that they
lack clarity. So most of my coaching clients I talk to, the first thing
I ask is what do you want? I find that, especially these days, people have
forgotten how to dream. They're just like, oh, I want to make enough money to
get by, or, I want my company to hit 5 million in sales, whatever the number
is. But there's no oomph underneath it. There's no big why. So the hard
part is I find people are forgetting, they don't know where they're going, they
don't know why they are going there, and then who's going to go with them and then
how are you going to get there? That's like the whole enchilada of the big
challenge of being an entrepreneur is you got to take time to get clear on all
those things, and yet at the same time, how do you know? Right? So if you've
never done it before, It's really challenging. So I've taken all of those parts
and put it together into a program, a six month program, so that I can walk an
entrepreneur no matter what level you're at. I've had entrepreneurs who are
just getting started. They're brand new. I have another couple of clients I'm working
with that do multiple millions every single year, and the same concepts apply. But
you got to get really clear on where you're headed and why and who do you need
with you.
Patrick: That's awesome. I mean, you have to have a compelling reason why you're doing
what you're doing in order to get where you want to go, right?
Allision: Yeah, absolutely.
Patrick: And I haven't shared this yet, but I have had the
opportunity to work with you. And I've seen you live, do that with folks, and
it's super effective. It's really amazing to see people go through that
process, go through that questioning, and get clear on what they want, and how
to get there. So, yeah, I can vouch for your ability to do that, for sure. So
six month program. And can you tell me a little bit more about how that looks
like? What's that look like for somebody who says, yeah, that sounds like
something I need to do?
Allison: Well, let me actually share a story about one of my clients because he really
walked through all four of them. So his name was Matt, and Matt came in to my
office one day, and he's always, like, the upbeat guy that everyone wants to
hang out with. He's like, super cool. He wears, like, $400 jeans, right? And
he's just always the nice guy you want to hang out with at parties.
Patrick: It sounds like me. Patrick's his name, but I don’t wear $400 Levi's so never mind.
Allison: So Matt comes in one day, and he looked miserable, and
this was not his normal energy, right? And so I just said, Matt, what's going
on? He goes, Allison, I have to talk to you right now. I have the worst news. I
thought for sure, someone had died or something terrible happened. He sits down
and he says, my wife is pregnant. And I'm like, oh, my God, it's so amazing for
you. This is great. He goes, no, you don't understand. She has a really great
cushy job where she makes like, $200,000 a year, and I don't actually have to
work. I do this for fun, to be social. So, like, now she's going to quit. I
have to actually work, and I don't know how I do this? You teach people all the
time. I've never done it because I didn't have to. We sat down and got really
clear. Now, clearly he had a why, right? He knew why he had to get this done,
so that was definitely motivating for him. He had no idea what his big goal
was, but we knew the income he needed to create in order to replace what his
wife had done. And then we got really clear on, like, so who do you need around
you and what talents and skills do you have such that we can create a plan for
you? And we took all of the items. I had to make a list of all of his
strengths. What is he really, really good at? And he said, I'm good at having
parties. I said, okay, that's an interesting strength, and let's build a plan
around that. So we literally built a business plan 100% around him having
parties. Every week, his only job was to have a party on Friday or Saturday
night. All week long, he had to build the list of people who were going to show
up to his house. So he was going to get it catered, do his whole thing. And so
what I told him was, when you invite a couple, tell them that their ticket to
get into the party is to bring another couple with them that you don't know
yet. So he did. And over the course of the next 90 days, he tripled his income
from the entire previous year. He tripled it in 90 days. He made so many sales
in real estate that he was like, oh, my God, I just replaced her income. Like,
for a six month income, I've replaced it. I'm totally on track to crush it. And
so I find oftentimes with entrepreneurs, we try to do too much, right? Because
it's like, oh, Bob over there is doing that, I should do that, and Sue's doing
that, and it's working for her, I should do that. And so we have a bazillion
things on our plate of all the things we should be doing, instead of narrowing
that window to, what are the few things that only I can do that are going to
bring the most amount of results? How do we keep it simple? Right? So I took
them through the process of creating a very simplified, very strategic action
plan. So I didn't even call it a business plan because business plans can be
daunting. It's just a plan of action. And from there, he's just blossomed. Now
he owns a brokerage and he's doing all kinds of awesome stuff with his life. But
it started with him making a decision and getting clear on this is exactly what
I'm going to do.
Patrick: Wow, that's a really cool success story. And he probably had a lot of fun doing it.
Allison: Oh, my gosh. Totally. I mean, seven parties every week. Who wouldn't love to do that?
Patrick: Yeah, that's great. So tell me more. You kind of hit it in the beginning. I'm
just curious what drives you? You talked about having this compelling vision
and a why, right . So if you don't mind sharing, I don't mean to put you on a
spot, but what's your why what's your compelling vision for doing what you're
doing?
Allison: You know what? I love working with people to be able to see what result I can
create through other people. Does that make sense? I look at my kids, for
instance, and I think about how I show up for my children, and the model that I
get to portray for them is really important for me. And the same thing with all
the clients that I get to work with. It's like I get to be 100% into creating
something awesome with someone else. It's like the partnership of I'm going to give
to you to create a result. And then that energy also comes back to me, and I
want to be able to create a life for my kids, that they have investment
properties that they get to have bequeathed to them when I pass away, that we
get to go on trips and vacations together. And so what I want for me, I want
the best for my clients as well. It lights me up. I love seeing other people
win because I know that I'm winning at the same time.
Patrick: Yeah, that's perfect. I can get totally behind that. I feel the same way about
what I do with people I serve, and that's fantastic. Thanks for sharing that on
the spot. The question I have for you too, is we're at this halfway point
through the year. I think it can be a place to start measuring our results. And
the people I serve most, or I like to work with most, are probably similar to
the ones that you serve as well. These are people who are entrepreneurial
minded. They are building a business or they provide a service. They're self-employed,
and a lot of the results they create is due directly to their effort. They need
to be very clear about what it is they want to create in their lives and in
their business. And so, we're six months in. What's things or what questions or
what recommendations do you have for these folks when we're looking at the
halfway point of the year?
Allison: That's a great question, actually. With my real estate company, I would do this
every year in June, too. It's a midyear check in to see where are we at. So our
point A was here in January, and now we're halfway through. Are we anywhere
near the goals that we set? Or if we didn't set any goals, are we on track to
do what we would like to do for the rest of the year? Part of the challenge and
thing to think about, too, is that in most businesses, I'll say you actually
have a 90-day window of like, a ramp up period. So what you decide today, the
results don't usually show up until 90 days later. So there's always that
window of time where when we start planning for next year, for 2024, we actually
got to start that in, like, October, September. You should be looking at what
your business plan looks like because you're going to actually be able to
implement and start in October, which is the ramp up time to see the results in
January. I would say take a real accounting of where are you at on the scale of
one to ten of here's our big goal, and we're super short or we are way over our
goal, which means we set our goal too low. So are you giving yourself too much
credit or not enough credit? And from there go, okay, now how do we reset and
get clear on this is what we're going to do moving forward and to take a look
at strategies. Strategies are incredibly important to really analyze and look
at what are the things you're doing that are not working. Because oftentimes
when I look at some of my clients calendars, they have all kinds of crap on there
that really they don't need to ever touch, that could be literally a virtual
assistant for $5 an hour, but they're wasting their time doing those little
things that are not their things. And so if there's things you're wasting your
time on, you got to look at, how do you get rid of those and then what are the
things that are really working? So if you look at your calendar and have
something in green, I always do a color coded system. Green means dollar
productive time. And if there's not enough dollar productive time, what are the
things that only you can do that do produce a result like that's where the time
needs to be spent. So really taking a look at your strategies and your time
allocation are the two things I'd recommend for the midyear checkup to be able
to adjust for the end of the year.
Patrick: Got it. That's great. Thank you for that. And I'm supposing this is all stuff that's
incorporated into your coaching program, right? How to really delve deep into these
things and create results.
Allison: Absolutely, yeah. And the whole first month is 100% about vision and clarity
and where you're going and why...
