The original tablets containing the 10 Commandment written by the finger of God have been smashed by Moses when he saw the people committing idolatry. But, after Moses has interceded for the people, and God agrees to restore the covenant, the first thing God asks of Moses is to make new tablets. These 9 verses are rich. We learn that the words of God are eternal and authoritative; we learn that God is merciful, gracious, longsuffering, abounding in goodness and truth, and perfectly just; we learn that there is no sin that Christ is unable or unwilling to forgive.
