Renown columnist Rekha Basu ticked through some of the things she feels make Iowa a great place to live: Edna Griffin fought for civil rights seven years before Rosa Parks. Iowa was the third state to legalize gay marriage. Interracial marriage was approved before neighboring states. Iowa welcomed Southeast Asian refugees to the state in the 1970s. Fast forward to the last election. Now it's book-banning, new anti-LGBTQ laws and taking money from public schools for private ones.
