SWANS is an experimental rock band, who have been making unconventional music since 1982. Their music requires somewhat of an investment to appreciate.

SWANS music will often take you to the far reaches of the human condition and the human psyche, always leaving the door open to interpretation, even when the lyrics seem clear about the idea, after listening to it enough the music can often change what you think the words mean.

They have been known to play acoustic shows, in tiny venues with arena size sound systems that are so loud that I often wondered how they could produce the sounds on instruments like that.

I got to speak to Michael Gira about the new album "The Beggar" which takes a very different turn from the typical music we have gotten from them. This album is full of more chimes and bells, and a "Joyeous" choral experience, almost like what you would hear in an English Abby, at full throttle intensity. This album is the kind of music you would enjoy listening to as the world is coming to an abrupt end knowing it will melt away into a supernova in a few hours, you want this album as your solace.

I was in awe at the opportunity to speak to Michael Gira, and I was more often than not surprised at the answers he gave me. A very down to earth, and deep thinker, he shocked me at some of the things he had to say. No matter what you think you know about him, you are going to be surprised at how humble a legend can be.
