Sexual Well-Being Entrepreneur Hugh Crothers is Disrupting a Category Full of Stigma | 643
Manage episode 371495610 series 2342426
Sexual wellbeing entrepreneur, and fourth-generation family business owner Hugh Crothers, says life is better with pleasure. Frictionless pleasure, to be exact. So, he’s on a mission to disrupt a category laden with stigma, and make it accessible to all of us who love a bit of the good old slap and tickle! It’s a well-lubed, and slightly naughty, episode 643 of The (14 year-old, award-winning) Small Business Big Marketing podcast.
A little more about Drip founder Hugh Crothers ...
Hugh Crothers is the founder of Drip, a sexual wellbeing brand he started in 2021 catering to people who are curious and diverse when it comes to sex.
Part of Substance, a 100% Australian owned, fourth generation health and wellbeing company, as a young queer person, Hugh struggled to find education and unbiased information about sex and intimacy.
At the same time, he realised that Australians had few options when it came to premium sexual wellbeing products made locally. Setting out to create a brand as a love letter to his 18-year-old self, Hugh founded Drip bringing together his appreciation and experience in design, health and sexuality.
Two years in, Drip’s range can be found in over 50 retailers nationally including Chemist Warehouse, and includes an organic oil-based lube, a water-based lube, a minty breath spray, and an organic sex toy cleaner.
If the kids are close by and you’re not ready for the Birds and the Bees chat, then maybe lock them up for an hour or so as Hugh shares:
- How the idea for Drip came about
- The challenges of getting it to market in a fourth generation family business
- The difficult convos that happened around the family dinner table
- Plus how he’s marketing products that are often censored on social media
