Susie's garage door breaks; her oldest daughter's last pre-teen birthday is coming up and she doesn't want to have a party anymore. Everyone is scared of Gen Alpha. Filipinos are so good at singing and can out-sing Celine Dion and Taylor Swift? Susie and Ed love karaoke. Our guest this week is our producer - Ron who is a Korean American tranracial adoptee. "Transracial adoptee" is defined. Ron talks about his background being adopted by white parents as a Korean baby. Ron starts to realize and feel different from his parents. Ron took a trip to South Korea and went to the adoption agency that he was processed through on the way to being adopted by his parents. Ron's parents tried to expose him to Korean culture pre-internet. Ron's first experience with Korean culture. Ron doesn't fit in with Asian or white people. "Are you going to teach him english?" Ron speaks about the racism he grew up with and his struggle with internalized racism as a result of feeling different. "You're my first Asian." The three discuss how to help with overcoming internalized racism. The divergence in fetishization of Asian women vs Asian men.
