As a critical scholar, his program of research uses culturally responsive frameworks to explore the influences of race and gender on the educational experiences of underrepresented populations in academia. Jesse earned a bachelor's degree in history from Coastal Carolina University and a master’s degree in higher education and student affairs from the University of South Carolina. He holds a Ph.D. in higher education from Florida State University.
