With the holiday season coming to an end, our Cole, Simon, and Seb dusted off their microphones and got together to reflect on Aston Villa's batch of festive fixtures/results, the year (2023) that was for Unai Emery's mighty Villa, and look ahead to the January transfer window.

WHAT DO WE DISCUSS?

  • Right then, Aston Villa have played 3 games since our last podcast and there certainly has been a real mixture of results over the holiday season (1-1 draw to Sheffield United at Villa Park, 3-2 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford, and a 3-2 win over Burnley at Villa Park) - what do the lads make of Villa grabbing 4 points from a possible 9?
  • Defensive frailties and injuries to the likes of Cash, Digne, and Torres have surely cost Villa some important points over the last 3 matches, right?
  • Looking at the grand scheme of things, Villa have played 10 games in 35 days, acquired 17 points from 24 in the Premier League, acquired 4 points from 6 in Europe, have lost once in the last 10 matches, are top of our UECL group, and sit comfortably in the top 4 of the league…it’s certainly not a bad time to be a Villan, is it?
  • Could Kamara’s suspension actually help the midfielder long-term?
  • There's been plenty of murmurings online about Unai Emery's high defensive line costing Villa at times; is this a social media overreaction or is there more to it?
  • How important is this week of preparation/recovery for Villa heading into the trip to Middlesbrough on January 6th?
  • There's been plenty of brilliant moments when it comes to Aston Villa in 2023, but which moment(s) standout out most for the lads?
  • All of this and so much more! Enjoy the podcast and Up The Villa!
