In consideration of Black History Month, we are pleased to present a re-release of our interview with Baratunde Thurston. In this enlightening discussion, Thurston reflects on the fortunate timing of his birth, while confronting the enduring reality of racism in the United States. He reflects on the disturbing phenomenon of white Americans weaponizing their discomfort, emphasizing the urgent need to challenge and dismantle such oppressive narratives. And he sheds light on the longstanding struggle for Black Americans to access and enjoy the great outdoors, describing his own history in nature.

Baratunde Thurston's impactful contributions include his insightful podcast, “How to Citizen,” his thought-provoking commentary on racial issues, and his engaging television and public speaking appearances. Through his work, Thurston amplifies marginalized voices, challenges societal norms, and advocates for social justice.
