A writer friend of mine, Ripu, and I spent a day in Potsdam, initially just to see the exhibition of Picasso's late works at the Barberini, but the day turned into an intellectual adventure of some sort. We talked about Patti Smith and Robert Mapplethorpe's time in New York, the hunger to be an artist, the necessity of a formal art education, and of course, Picasso and his final muse of twenty years, Jacqueline.
