Recently, Congress passed an appropriations package that provides USDA funding to implement Electronic Animal ID (EID) Tags for breeding livestock. The funding will help pay for infrastructure and limit the cost that producers will have to pay as USDA transitions its Federal Animal Disease Traceability (ADT) protocol for items like metal Bang Vaccination tags to an EID button. South Dakota cattlemen and past president of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association Todd Wilkinson discusses the associations voluntary approach to USDA ADT and more.
