When we think about Holy Ground, we tend to look down at the solid earth, the soil beneath our feet, and think that this is all there is. But Jesus and his disciples worked on the water. It is there – on the waters of the Sea of Galilee – that the disciples witnessed first-hand some of the magnificent and awe-inspiring work of Jesus.
In the Gospel of Mark, the disciples become frightened when a storm threatens to sink their boat. Waking Jesus from a sleep, there is no indication of their expectations of Jesus.
Jesus surprised them all. He warned the wind and commanded the sea to be still. The disciples then seemed to be troubled by the great calm.
Often lost in this story is Jesus' subtle judgment that we act with too much timidity and too little faith. What then does this mean for us?
