Habitual or compulsive sins can make us feel so powerless at times. Yet when diving into the deeper story, we often find that the sin began in an attempt to get a legitimate need met. For my guest this week, that need was for both physical and emotional safety. Devry will share his complex relationship with an alcoholic father growing up and why he learned to believe that failure of any kind was unacceptable.

Be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss the second half of Devry’s story where he will unpack how God has gently helped him unlearn his harmful patterns of coping.

In this episode, you’ll learn

  • How few times Devry could remember his dad sober
  • The ways Devry attempted to cope with his dad’s violence
  • How hard he tried to run from God
  • What betrayal became a huge source of discouragement for Devry
  • Why the need to be right made Devry so difficult to connect with
