#CancelStudentDebt has been a hashtag that has made its way around social media. It brings with it a great deal of division and passion. Some feel it is too much, some not enough. On August 24th, President Biden and Secretary Cardona announced a three part plan to help struggling students and their families, with $10,000 loan forgiveness to those earning under $125,000 a year and $20,000 to those who were PELL eligible while enrolled in College. Previously, the US DOE Has been pushing the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PLSF) which, as of August 21 of this year has approved more than $10 billion in debt relief for over 175,000 borrowers in 10 months - a stark difference from previous years where PSLF loan forgiveness was stalled and borrowers were disappointed. On this episode, we will be discussing the impact of the PSLF program with two actual borrowers - and Higher Education professionals. Guests: Doug Cooper UMass Lowell & Keith D.
