On this episode of The Mindset Doctor Podcast with Dr. Justin Moseley, we are joined by guest Darryll Stinson, who takes us on a journey from comfort to calling through the world of public speaking.

Darryll discusses the difference between a choice and a decision, highlighting the importance of cutting off other possibilities when making a decision. He shares a personal experience of making a choice instead of a decision when participating in a TEDx Talk due to insecurities and fear, and how it ultimately led to embarrassment. However, Darryll bravely decides to share his talk, garnering over a million views and making a positive impact on people's lives. Following this transformative experience, Darryll's confidence grows, and he plans to give future talks with even more impact. He identifies three main points on his journey: fascination with other speakers, fascination with speech ideas, and fear. Darryll explores the fear of saying yes to speaking, as it carries weight and responsibility, often holding people back from pursuing public speaking. He believes that overcoming insecurities and addressing past trauma are necessary steps for some individuals to fully embrace public speaking. Darryll suggests that fear and a willingness to overcome challenges actually make someone a better speaker. He emphasizes the need for speakers who genuinely care about making an impact, as the industry is in dire need of individuals who can inspire and motivate.

He shares three tips to becoming a better speaker: having a fascination with other speakers, understanding multiple modalities and industries, and being inspired by notable figures like Eminem, Bishop TD Jakes, Tony Robbins, Wayne Dyer, Mel Robbins, and Lisa Nichols. Darryll attributes his fascination with speaking to a calling, explaining that those who feel called to speak have a hunger for personal and professional development, leading to continuous growth. However, he warns against comparing oneself to mentors or successful speakers, as it can create insecurity and hinder progress. Instead, he advocates for a focus on being helpful rather than impressive, a lesson he learned while seeking guidance from a campus pastor. Darryll opens up about his own journey of insecurity and self-doubt, admitting to previously hiding his talent and not pursuing his calling due to fear of criticism. However, after a back surgery ended his football dreams, he discovered his passion for speaking and began to invest in his personal development. Through overcoming his fear of public speaking and finding his authentic voice, his church grew significantly. Darryll acknowledges that everyone has fears and insecurities, even those seen as amazing speakers by others.

He emphasizes the importance of not giving up and pushing forward, as everyone has a story that needs to be shared. He advises finding a coach as a crucial step in achieving success, someone who has been where you want to go and can provide guidance. Furthermore, Darryll stresses the significance of making a decision to say yes, regardless of fear, insecurity, or past failures. While stumbling and mistakes may occur along the way, he believes in being proud of the impact one can make, and the fulfillment and joy it brings. He shares his personal experience of feeling more peace, joy, and happiness when he shows up authentically and aligned with his true self. Darryll delves into the importance of investing in both the art and skill of public speaking, as well as the business side of it. He encourages seeking out successful individuals and hiring them for guidance and directions. Additionally, he highlights the importance of spiritual development and how it can contribute to heart alignment in coaching others. Lastly, Darryll urges speakers who are comfortable with their current engagements to not settle, encouraging them to reach out to those who need to hear their message. He emphasizes the significance of remembering the feeling of needing guidance and not wanting others to struggle as he did in finding resources and pathways. Tune in to this episode of The Mindset Doctor Podcast to gain valuable insights and inspiration on overcoming fear and embracing your true calling in the world of public speaking."
