The Detention Alternative for Autistic Youth Court (DAAY Court), a court supervised program for autistic youth in the justice system, works with autistic juvenile offenders and their families to provide access to the correct services needed. The first and only in the nation, DAAY Court was created in 2018 through the efforts of Judge Soonhee Bailey and her staff in the Eighth Judicial District Court. On May 31, 2023, Nevada became the first state to pass legislation to create a specialty court for youth in the delinquency system with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or suspected of having a diagnosis of ASD. In the next two podcast episodes, Presiding Judge Sonhee Bailey will walk us through every faucet of DAAY Court, from the beginning to present. Listen to part one of this two-part podcast series to explore and understand the intersection of the juvenile justice system and autism spectrum disorders.
