Finding Their Voice
Manage episode 411884528 series 3459619
Last week found a covey of students joining me at a meeting of the Aurora Rotary Club for their annual speech contest. Every year I am always so impressed with them. I am the Mama Duck in the room beaming at her ducklings.
The criteria is simple. They pick a topic about their world that they would like to change, grow or improve. The do some research, formulate a main idea, develop a call to action and learn something about the Rotary Four-Way Test.
The adrenaline and energy was palpable. Having a live audience made it personal, timely and relevant. But this year---they blew it out of the water with their creativity, personal connections, calls to action and their topics---which were both powerful and personal.
I have heard from most of the Rotarians in attendance that day that this year's "were the best yet." I believe them.
Our future is in good hands. And that's the truth.
