In this week’s episode, I’m talking to the brilliant Paul Ward.
Paul - who goes by Great Kraken on social platforms - is a 43 year old Irishman who has gone through divorce and has used this experience to become an advocate for the importance of solo dating & men's mental health, and challenging society's obsession with romantic relationships. Paul is a firm believer that the most important relationship is with yourself, and that peace and contentment are the true keys to happiness. He also has his own podcast, Kraken’s Cabin.

Topics that Paul & I cover are:

  • Paul’s marriage at 21 that ended in divorce;
  • long-term relationships, and why staying together ‘no matter what’ is not necessarily a good idea;
  • how when we put everything into a relationship, we tend to forget who we actually are;
  • Paul’s theory regarding the high suicide rates amongst men between 30 - 45 yrs;
  • people’s fears around doing things by themselves;
  • some tips for solo dating, and why it’s not ‘sad’;
  • why independence is actually what makes us happy, not being co-dependent in a relationship;
  • how we compromise things that are important to us when we’re part of a couple;
  • how we give up our independence in relationships thinking that’s what we’re supposed to do;
  • why Paul’s marriage came to an end;
  • the things that we’re willing to sacrifice to make a relationship work;
  • why it’s so important to make an effort on a solo date;
  • the misguided idea that you can’t enjoy things if you’re on your own;
  • why we don’t need other people to find our peace.
