Hi friends! Welcome to Episode 6 of Broken but Redeemed! I'm your host, Erika, and today, I'm opening up about a subject close to my heart and one that you, our cherished community, have asked to explore: the journey through alcohol dependency to a life of sobriety and reliance on God.
From the normalized presence of alcohol in my childhood to using it as a shield against the pain of past trauma, my story with alcohol is a winding road of self-medication and search for solace. But as I share in this episode, my path took a turn when I realized that true peace comes not from the bottom of a glass but from a deep relationship with the Lord.
In 2021, I embarked on a faith-based recovery program, and it was there that I began to see the need for change. My dependence shifted from worldly comforts to the steadfast love of God. By 2023, I made the life-altering decision to abstain from alcohol entirely—a choice that would soon be tested by one of life's most challenging seasons: the loss of my father.
Through the heartache and the grief, I clung to scripture and the presence of God, refusing to let the temptation of alcohol numb the pain. I discovered that in my weakest moments, God's strength was sufficient, carrying me through the unimaginable and leading me to a place of peace and clarity.
This episode is not just my testimony but an invitation for you to reflect on your own struggles and consider the freedom that awaits on the other side of surrender. Whether you're grappling with addiction, grief, or seeking a deeper connection with God, there is hope, and there is a way through.
Join me as I recount the scriptures that guided me, the support of loved ones that bolstered me, and the grace of God that transformed me. And remember, no matter the depth of our brokenness, we are all capable of redemption through Christ.
