A very fine line exists between control and manipulation. When our first attempt to control something doesn’t work, it sometimes triggers us to double down and try to manipulate situations for what we want. Join me as I chat about a Bible story that teaches us the exhaustion of trying to control and manipulate.

We’re looking at the story of David and Bathsheba, a tale mostly known for adultery. Everyone is quick to note the poor choice that sparks the events, but the underlying theme driving the chaos is the real kicker. The story shows the debt we pay when selling our morals for a sense of control.

After wrestling with my own understanding, I decided to do this series about releasing control and trusting God. This episode is Control Freak Part 3, Manipulation. My prayer is that this series allows us to loosen our grip and have softer hands that open towards God’s will, protection, and love.

You’ll Learn:

  • [01:41] Kristi reads the story of David and Bathsheba to talk about manipulation and control.
  • [06:02] When you’re obsessed with control, you often make things more complicated.
  • [11:04] Our vision and values become skewed when we prioritize manipulation and control.
  • [16:05] Your compulsive desire to control can come with an irreversible cost.
  • [24:05] Manipulation is exhausting.
  • [28:03] There’s peace in trusting God’s promises.
