Evan Gershkovich’s espionage trial began this past week in Russia. Russia's claims that he was working as a spy and not a journalist.

The Wall Street Journal reporter, who has been in prison for over a year, has been declared “wrongfully detained” by the U.S. government. The Journal also rejects the espionage charge, calling it a bogus claim.

Since Evan was first detained, the media organization has urged his safe return.

Just before the trial began, Assistant Editor at The Wall Street Journal, Paul Beckett, joined

FOX News Rundown’s Dave Anthony to discuss Evan’s closed-door trial, and why he believes his likely conviction will be a travesty of Justice.

Beckett, who now spends all his working hours on trying to get Evan released, explains the importance of bringing awareness to Evan's wrongful detention and the implications his arrest has for all journalists all over the world.

The conversation was long and we could not include all of it in our original FOX News Rundown segment.

On the FOX News Rundown Extra, you will hear our entire conversation with the Wall Street Journal’s Paul Beckett and learn even more about Evan Gershkovich, the great journalism he was doing, and the unfair treatment he is receiving from Russia.
