Leah Rothstein and Rachel True have been friends for nearly 30 years. In this episode, we hear their story of building a life-long friendship that has turned into co-housing and building their very own "compound" in Oakland, California. They share the many reasons this came about including a shared commitment to not living an isolated life and sharing life more expansively in a unique (but increasingly more popular these days) way.
We dive into the benefits and the challenges they have faced, the language we have (and don't have) for these kinds of unconventional friendships and relationships, how others perceive it, what commitment in friendship can look and feel like, and a whole lot more.
There are many ways compounds and communal living can look, and this is one unique peek into how Leah and Rachel (and their families and friends) are doing it.
