During the NATO summit, President Joe Biden urged member states to ramp up their industrial production amid threats from China and Russia. His administration is also imposing tariffs on foreign-made steel and aluminum imports routed through Mexico. The measure is meant to address China’s evasion of U.S. tariffs.

Top lawmakers met with NATO leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Capitol Hill on the sidelines of the NATO summit. Both Republicans and Democrats expressed their support for both NATO and Ukraine. Mr. Zelenskyy urged Congress not to wait until after the November elections to provide Ukraine with more aid.

The House votes on the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, aimed at preventing noncitizens from voting in federal elections. The bill would require proof of U.S. citizenship when voting or registering to vote.

The remnants of Hurricane Beryl are traveling northeast, causing tornadoes and heavy rain from the Great Lakes to New England. More than 1.6 million customers are still without power in Texas amid intense heat.
