Disappointment Reigns as SF Giants Lose Back-to-Back Series in Which They Won the First Game

Two series in a row, the San Francisco Giants have won the first game only to lose the final two. It's a brutal result for a team that has been struggling to reach and surpass the .500 mark all season. If the Giants could've just won two of those four games, they would be 47-47. Instead, the SF Giants are 45-49 as they enter the final series of the first half against the talented Minnesota Twins.

In the middle game of the SF Giants' series vs. Toronto, Logan Webb was staked to a 2-0 lead and pitched four scoreless innings before imploding for one of his worst starts in recent memory. Webb's rough outing was followed by another poor showing from Jordan Hicks, who was so good for the first month and a half of the season, but the last month and a half has been really rough. Hicks appears to be leaking oil and is a candidate to move back to the bullpen when Robbie Ray and Alex Cobb return from injuries.

The San Francisco Giants' upcoming series against the Twins feels important. Some NL wild card teams have started to gain a little separation from the .500 mark, and the Giants are four games under. At the very least, winning a series against a good team would give the Giants some momentum going into the All-Star break. The task won't be easy, however, as the Twins' lineup and defense is quite good, and their best two starters are lined up to start the first two games of the series vs. Giants rookie starters Kyle Harrison and Hayden Birdsong.
