Scriptures: Psalm 107:1-3, 23-32, Mark 4:35-41
Description: This story from Mark is one of the early miracle/healing stories in this Gospel and is filled with irony and open questions: Jesus, the carpenter, commands his disciples (several of whom are experienced fishermen) to set sail with him. Yet when the weather gets rough, it it the fishermen who panic and the carpenter has to save them. Ironic also, that Jesus is sleeping in their time of need but awakens to respond to their pleas for help. Yet later in life, when Jesus is facing arrest and eventual crucifixion, he asks them to assist him by lifting him up in prayer. Their response is to fall asleep- they fail to help him. The story ends as Jesus asks his disciples if they are still filled with fear, but empty of faith? They respond, not with an answer, but with their own question "Who is this guy"?

Bio: Chuck Myser is an honorably retired minister member of Cincinnati Presbytery. He is a graduate of The Ohio State University and Vanderbilt Divinity School and recently retired from St. Elizabeth Hospice where he served as a Chaplain for 17 years. He is married to LaCretia, who is very active in this congregation, and they have 3 children and four granddaughters (who joyfully occupy more and more of their time!). When Chuck isn't doing projects around the house and five acres of woods surrounding it, he plays guitar, uke and plans to learn 5 string banjo one day. He enjoys hiking, water and snow skiing, reading and shuffling through his extensive collection of Far Side cartoons. #Psalm #Mark #lakesidepresbyterianchurch
