The continued existence of Israel’s ultra-Orthodox (Haredi) society is dependent on a strong national economy able to provide economic security and a strong army able to provide physical security.

The latest research paper by The Shoresh Institution for Socioeconomic Research, entitled Jerusalem and the increasingly Haredi towns: A parable for Israel , examines the dependence on Haredi towns on the rest of the country but warns that the trend is unsustainable due to the exponential growth of ultra-Orthodox population.

KAN's Mark Weiss spoke with Professor Dan Ben David from the Shoresh Institution and Tel Aviv university.
