Understand Jesus’ Mission For You and Its Boundaries. Understand What He Desires For You! Today’s Gospel assumes you remember last week’s Gospel (don’t worry, it will be reviewed). Ordinary Times doesn’t mean unimportant times. It means time put into order. Ordered Times! The order during these times is the order of the public ministry of Jesus. This year, from the time He left the desert up to the time of the Passion, we read in order about His public ministry. Last Sunday, Jesus sent His disciples out into the world. They were ordered not to take anything other than a walking stick. He told them don’t take anything with you . . . just go! Why this odd command? Jesus did not want His disciples to be worried about their own needs and not focus on the needs of the people they are going to see. A powerful lesson for all of us is explained further in the Homily. Having healed people, the disciples return to Jesus to give Him an account of their travels and their mission. This is important, the work the Apostles were given . . . is not their work! They do not own it. It was entrusted to them by the Lord! Hear more and understand this message for our Spiritual Life! They Go to Christ When the Apostles come back from their mission, they do not go home to rest quietly. They go to Christ. They account for their service in Jesus’ name. People gather where the Apostles are and where Jesus resides. Jesus says come aside and rest awhile with Me. This is significant. The most ancient image of salvation . . . is rest. Rest after the work is done. The Apostles needed a rest . . . not a short nap, but a rest. Understand the difference. Rest with Me, because I am the one who can give you rest. It can’t all be service and work. There must be a time to rest in the Lord. What actually does that mean? Hear more in the Homily. The Lord and the Apostles go across the shore, and people approach them again. How many times does that happen to us? There is always another thing to do . . . and robs us of our rest. We try, but do not rest. The Apostles experience the arriving people. Jesus wants the disciples to experience this on purpose. Why? It is a lesson for the Apostles . . . and us! There is more need in this world than what you can hope to meet (satisfy). Hear more in the Homily! Understand the significance for our spiritual life. Listen to this Meditation Media.
