Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle has resigned—just a day after a grueling hearing before Congress. Both Republican and Democrat lawmakers called for her resignation over the Secret Service's failure to prevent the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump on July 13. Secret Service Deputy Director Ronald Rowe has now been appointed acting director of the agency.

At the first rally in her presidential campaign, Vice President Kamala Harris vows to unite the party. President Joe Biden, appearing in public for the first time in six days, is set to address the nation on Wednesday night.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will address a joint session of Congress for a fourth time on Wednesday. This is a first for any world leader, but between 50 and 100 Democrat lawmakers are expected to boycott his speech. Protests around the U.S. Capitol are also expected.

Israeli forces are continuing to battling Hamas in the southern Gaza Strip after ordering residents to evacuate. Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces conducted an overnight counterterrorism operation in the West Bank. And the Israeli Parliament has just approved a bill labeling the United Nations Relief and Works Agency a terrorist organization—which the agency denies.
