Slight relief for consumers as June Consumer Price Index drops to 5.1%, from 5.2% in May

The annual consumer price inflation is now at 5.1% in June 2024, down from 5.2% in May. This is expected to provide some relief for consumers as inflation eased. Stats SA has released data today , which shows that inflation has remained outside the central bank's midpoint target of four-point-five per cent. The rate for food and non-alcoholic beverages also edged lower to four-point-six per cent last month after stalling at four-point-seven per cent in May and April. It is the lowest since September 2020. Here is Patrick Kelly, Chief Director for Price Statistics at Stats SA
