Manage episode 431286038 series 3030156
The Apostle Peter wrote the letter we call 1 Peter while persecution against Christians was simmering in and around ancient Rome. He wanted his readers to be prepared for hard things to come, and he sought to prepare them by reminding them of their identity as the chosen people of God, living as exiles in a world of suffering.
We continue our series in 1 Peter looking at 1 Peter 2:13-17.
We can resist evil and do good by:
- Respecting government itself as an institution ordained by and overseen by God.
- Honoring and submitting to our government leaders - no matter who they are.
- Loving other Christians more than we love government, politics, or our political leaders.
- Fearing the Lord more than we fear any political outcome or possibility.
Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Romans 13:1
“We must obey God rather than men.” Acts 5:29
