Summary: Mary James Peters was born in 1938 to James and Veronica Peters in North Dakota, along with her four brothers. At the time of the incident, she was 85 years old, legally blind, and lived alone. Mary was a petite woman, standing at 5’1'' and weighing 110 pounds. She had two daughters, Teresa and Mary, and many grandchildren. She was close friends with Rita Baldwin but feared her husband, Tim. Mary attended church with her friend Ledvic Herlevic every Sunday. Tim, Rita, and their seven children were neighbors of Mary in Louisiana, where Mary was a godmother to their youngest son. Timothy often did handyman work for Mary in her home. After moving to Ohio, issues arose with Rita's financial troubles, leading to a downward spiral for the family. Tim and Marilyn eventually decided to rob Mary James Peters for money, which ended in tragedy.
