On this week’s episode of True Crime New England, Katie and Liz take a look back at 1984 in Sanford, Maine, at the cruel and senseless murder of Gycelle Cote. Gycelle was a friendly, loving, 12-year-old girl who loved to spend time with her friends and family. On the last day of April, her body was discovered, strangled, on the banks of the Mousam River, covered in leaves and sticks. Several days later, police would arrest 18-year-old Scott Waterhouse, who had been seen at the crime scene that day. Through police interviews, it was discovered that Scott was a self-proclaimed Satanist, who believed that his religion allowed him to do whatever he wanted, and that apparently included killing an innocent little girl.
