Giants vs Lions 2024 Preseason Week 1
Giants Win 14-3
Winners & Losers From the Game
Winners
The Giants Overall: A win is a win, and while a preseason victory isn't much, it helps build confidence. The Lions are considered one of the best teams in the NFC, so hanging with them has some significance. The Giants’ depth has been a concern for years, but our backups held their own against theirs.
Backup Running Backs:
Dante Miller had 12 carries for 63 yards, averaging 5.25 yards per carry, and added 2 receptions for 7 yards.
Eric Gray ran 4 times for 52 yards, including a 48-yard run, and scored 2 touchdowns, also catching 4 passes for 46 yards.
Tyrone Tracy Jr contributed 5 carries for 26 yards.
Overall, the Giants’ running backs combined for 21 carries, 141 yards, and averaged 6.7 yards per carry.
Dyontae Johnson: He recorded 4 tackles, a sack, and 2 tackles for loss. Johnson has impressed during camp and looked like he belonged on the field, standing out with his performance. He’s playing his way onto the roster.
Tommy DeVito: He completed 8 of 15 passes for 92 yards.
Giants Defense: The defense allowed just 3 points, held the Lions to 0-4 on 4th down attempts, and allowed 228 yards while losing the time of possession battle.
Losers
Josh Ezeudu: Struggled in his performance.
Giants WRs: Allen Robinson led all wide receivers with 1 catch for 9 yards. Bryce Ford-Wheaton had 1 catch for 6 yards, and Jalin Hyatt had a catch for 0 yards. The passing game was minimal, with most of the passing attack coming from running backs and tight ends.
Drew Lock: He completed 4 of 10 passes for 17 yards and threw an interception. He hurt his hip in the game, which is being described as a bad bone contusion. Surgery isn’t needed, but it will take time to heal. With recently cut QB Nathan Rourke signing with the Falcons, the Giants may consider bringing in another quarterback.
