The ongoing issue between Prince Andrew and King Charles concerning the Royal Lodge has recently intensified. King Charles is attempting to have Prince Andrew vacate the Royal Lodge, a 30-room mansion in Windsor Great Park, due to the high costs associated with its upkeep and security, which amount to around £3 million per year. This expense has been a significant burden since Andrew stepped down from public duties and was stripped of his military titles following his controversial ties to Jeffrey Epstein and the subsequent legal settlements.
King Charles has proposed that Prince Andrew move to the smaller Frogmore Cottage, recently vacated by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, which would reduce security costs as it falls within the Windsor Castle security perimeter. However, Andrew has so far refused to leave the Royal Lodge, leading to a standoff that some have termed the "siege of Royal Lodge"
Despite his resistance, Prince Andrew's financial difficulties, including the high costs of maintaining the Royal Lodge and the potential loss of financial support from King Charles, may eventually compel him to relocate. King Charles is reportedly considering withdrawing the private funding currently provided for Andrew's security, further complicating Andrew's ability to remain in his current residence.
Overall, the situation remains unresolved, with Prince Andrew showing no signs of complying with King Charles's request to vacate the Royal Lodge, despite the mounting financial and logistical pressures.
